Join in as the province celebrates creativity, the arts, and wellbeing
With hundreds of free, family-friendly events and activities taking place across the province, Alberta Culture Days returns to celebrate the unique and interesting aspects of our culture.
Alberta Culture Days began in 2008 as a one-day event to recognize the value of Alberta’s arts and cultural communities. Since then, it has expanded into a vibrant, three-day, province-wide celebration that has helped inspire the creation of Culture Days—a pan-Canadian movement to raise awareness, accessibility, participation, and engagement of all Canadians in arts and culture.
“Community organizations have amazing events planned, from art walks and opera performances to dance lessons and film festivals,” says Alberta’s Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women Leela Sharon Aheer in a statement. “I encourage everyone to get out this weekend to explore their community and celebrate our province.”
Back for its 12th year, this province-wide festival celebrates community, heritage, arts and, of course, culture. In Calgary, the Burc Intercultural Center (2945 19th St. NE) has been chosen as a central hub with three days of activities planned.
But that’s not all. In Calgary alone, there are 90 activities scheduled—there’s something for everyone. Here’s what we are most looking forward to:
Art, Music and Wellbeing

With two engaging presentations built around the 2019 Culture Days theme Creativity, the Arts, and Wellbeing, attendees can gain insight to research linking creativity and wellness. Check out Music for Mental Health by music therapist Jennifer Buchanan, followed by Prescriptions for Art by artist Dick Averns. Attendees can even share their own insight by contributing personal narratives in either of the Q&A sessions or during the discussions.

Atsiniiksisstsii

EMMEDIA and Indigenous Resilience in Music (IRIM) are proud to present Atsiniiksisstsii as part of the AlterNATIVE Indigenous Film Series. Showcasing the rich landscape of works produced by Indigenous artists, this edition, curated by Curtis Running Rabbit-Lefthand, features Intertribal Series, a documentary by Trevor Solway, and performances by Bebe BuckSkin, Wyatt C. Louis, and DJ BLKFT.

Culture Days with The City of Calgary

Join The City of Calgary as it showcases artists of various mediums to inform and promote cultural opportunities in the city. You can make prints of manhole covers with Alberta Printmakers, see a public pit-firing at Edworthy Park, or take in a free concert. The City has also partnered with Contemporary Calgary for a series of Dynamic Environment events.
