Full of surprise and delight, this smash-up of art, science, and engineering has tons of events that you can explore. Look for curated and eclectic workshops, spectator-pleasing shows, and unique school field trips.

It all wraps with Beakerhead’s signature finale, now named Spectacle, from 5:00 to 11:00pm on September 21. It’s sure to make your head turn and jaw drop.

“The Calgary Downtown Association is excited to partner with Beakerhead to bring this year’s Spectacle to Prince’s Island Park,” says Calgary Downtown Association Executive Director Marco De Iaco in a statement. “Beakerhead is a fun, unique, and local creation that offers a new experience every year. We’re excited to host this event downtown!”

Consolidating over 25 engineered art installations into one downtown location for a single night, it’s easy for audiences to discover and explore. Be prepared for fire-breathing monsters, roaming engineered contraptions, glowing fashion, inventions of mammoth proportions, food, drink, and so much more.

And with over 10,000 people expected to attend the Spectacle, you won’t want to miss it!

The week also sees tons of fun workshops including the return of Campus Collisions at the University of Calgary and Stone Lab, a two-hour carving workshop hosted by the Arctic Institute of North America. You can also catch performances of The Lost Hours, For Science, and the popular fundraiser, Locked Library.

We’re also really looking forward to checking out Wild Constructs, an evening with nine local artists as they share their stories about creating and living with Calgary’s urban wild.

Beakerhead runs September 18 to 22, 2019 throughout Calgary. Head to beakerhead.com for the latest details and full schedule.
