Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
Get ready for a New Orleans funky brass dance party with Arts Commons Presents
- Location: Jack Singer Concert Hall, Arts Commons 205 8th Ave. SE
- Price: $29 - $89
Known for his hip-hop beats and improvisation in a jazz tradition, don’t miss New Orleans native Troy Trombone Shorty Andrews and his band Orleans Avenue at the Jack Singer. The concert heralds the return of Arts Commons Presents’ third season of TD Jazz.
Coming from a highly musical family, Shorty began his career as a bandleader when he was six, joined Lenny Kravitz’s horn section on a world tour at 19, and is now a trailblazing crossover artist. He’s also the founder of the Trombone Shorty Foundation for musical education and preservation, and the concert marks his first time in Calgary.
“Music is changing,” says Shorty in a statement. “I’m just doing what I’m doing, and hopefully in the next 20, 30 years, some kids can take what I’m doing and change it again. If the music doesn’t move, then it’s dead.”
Catch Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with Penny Sanborn Trio at 6:30pm on September 27, 2016 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Arts Commons (205 8th Ave. SE).
