Hoodlum Theatre tackles Dennis Kelly's dark and chilling play
- Location: Evergreen Community Spaces 1709 8th Ave. NE
- Price: $15 - $20
When a group of teenagers does something really bad, they panic and cover the whole thing up, uniting them and bringing harmony to their once fractious lives. It’s the perfect subject matter for a youth-founded company promoting emerging artists.
Calgary’s own Hoodlum Theatre offers a creative environment for thespians on their gap year, bards on their summer break, and artists who have outgrown their artistic outlets, to showcase their talent.
Christian Goutsis takes the directorial reigns of the company’s second production that also features a cast of up-and-coming youth who have been recently involved in projects including Wynonna Earp, Lord of the Flies, and IGNITE! Festival.
“Hoodlum Theatre chose DNA—one of the most produced and read plays in the UK—because it is a script that gives all the power to the youth,” says Griffin Cork, Artistic Producer. “It’s your classic coming of age story, but with a dark twist that puts you at the mercy of these young artists. It showcases our city’s emerging talent impeccably.”
DNA runs August 23 to 28, 2016 at Evergreen Community Spaces (1709 8th Ave. NE). Tickets can be found at lunchboxtheatre.com/tickets.
