With the last full week of November upon us, Calgary’s best are rolling out the welcome wagon with free programming. From a one-of-a-kind presentation at the New Central Library to a community dance concert from Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, this week has some awesome events.

ProArts Presents German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary

A lunch hour break that brings beautiful traditional German songs, this performance starts with the famous Thunder and Lightning Polka composed by Johann Strauss. Rounded out by original Spanish songs composed by the well-known German composer/arranger Otto Groll, the concert also features solos by two members of the group.

Almost Home

A short documentary by Susan Cahill and Matt Rogers, Almost Home traces the story of Yvonne Hepditch and Jim Cahill as they travel back to an abandoned rural fishing village. The primary footage was shot in 2016, the 50th anniversary of Hepditch and her family relocating as part of the government-directed resettlement program in Newfoundland, and tells the ongoing story of resettlement, one that is not buried in a by-gone era of historical documents but is alive and present in the contemporary life of many people.
