Introduction to Silkscreen

Misgendering Mouthfuls

Dan Cardinal McCartney’s Misgendering Mouthfuls is a performance that includes 25 lemons, misgendering comments, and invasive questions. The artist reads out the first round with ease, but continues after biting into each sour lemon half. A response to Arts Commons’ censoring of B.G-Osborne’s A Thousand Cuts—a work by a trans artist that deals with trans visibility in popular culture—programmed by The New Gallery, Untitled Art Society’s upcoming +15 exhibition by Cardinal McCartney has been cancelled in a joint decision made by the gallery and the artist. In lieu of the exhibition, come see this performance, hosted in conjunction with its current main space exhibition, What if we were alive.

Chris Kuzmanovich is a Calgary-based creative originally from the Northwest Territories. Known for his bold abstracts, which often contain suggestions of architectural forms, Kuzmanovich’s latest series, Eleven was loosely based on the best-selling book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Initially conceived as a visual record and celebration of the agreements at work, the series took an unexpected turn once the artist began to question his ability.

Dear Agnes

Starting in 2010, Tammi Campbell would start each day in her Saskatoon studio by drawing a different variation of a grid in graphite on Japanese rag paper. Campbell would then write the salutation “Dear Agnes” in the top left corner, fold the drawing twice like a letter, and then store it in sequence. Campbell completed her last letter to modernist artist Agnes Martin on December 31, 2017. See the final three months in this intriguing show.
