Join the Rocky Mountain Symphony and James Campbell for the Calgary premiere of Allan Gilliland’s Dreaming of the Masters 1.
Originally commissioned by Campbell and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 2003, this jazz concerto for clarinet and orchestra takes the listener on a thrilling journey through the styles of the classic jazz clarinet writers George Gershwin and Benny Goodman. Canada’s pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist, Campbell is a JUNO Award-winning musician and member of the Order of Canada.
The program is rounded out by Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet & Orchestra and Overture to Die Freischütz alongside Sibelius’ Finlandia, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture.
There are two chances to catch the show—7:30pm on October 26, 2018 at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4th St. SE) and 7:30pm on October 27, 2018 at the Highwood Centre (128 5th Ave. W, High River)—so be sure to grab your tickets.
