antigone lives*
School of Creative and Performing Arts drama season opens with new Canadian work
- Location: Reeve Theatre, University of Calgary 210 University Court NW
- Price: $16 - $21
Kicking off its new season, the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts presents a new work by Canadian playwright and actor Susanna Fournier.
Directed by faculty member Christine Brubaker, this unfaithful re-telling of Sophocles’ original is more rave than play. antigone lives* combines techno, despair, and family politics in a 200-bpm exploration of the carcass of democracy and notions of revolution.
“I love new plays. Their imperfection, their upstart-ness, their unpredictability, and the shared surprise with the first audiences. antigone lives* is just that,” says Brubaker, in a statement.
antigone lives* runs October 12 to 20, 2018 at the Reeve Theatre, University of Calgary (210 University Court NW) and is suggested for ages 14+. The 2:00pm show on October 14 also features a talkback with Fournier and a reception.
