National Music Centre celebrates the cultural diversity of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples

Featuring music and youth-friendly activities that celebrate the cultural diversity of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples, head to the National Music Centre for Indigenous Music Day at Studio Bell.
Coinciding with celebrations happening across Canada in honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day and Aboriginal Awareness Week in Calgary, on-site activities include live music from Métis singer-songwriter Sandra Sutter, traditional dance and drumming performances from Thundering Nations, and Indigenous art demonstrations and displays.
“At the National Music Centre, we believe in the power of music to break cultural barriers, act as an entry point to learning, and enable people to meet on common ground,” says Adam Fox, NMC’s Director of Programs, in a statement. “Indigenous Music Day is a great opportunity for visitors to explore and honour the music and culture of Canada’s First Peoples, and to encourage discussion around reconciliation.”
Indigenous Music Day takes place on June 21, 2018 at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4th St. SE) and is included with admission.
To support accessibility, the National Music Centre is extending free admission on June 21 to visitors who identify as Indigenous or of Indigenous descent. Reception accepts identification or declaration upon entry.
