Highlighting the interaction of cultures that created each dance style, Unganisha brings together an incredible showcase to celebrate the history and influence of African culture on modern dance.
The performance offers a glimpse at some of the city’s best dance performers and choreographers while providing an opportunity to educate audiences about the lesser-known origins of the most popular forms of dance. Unganisha identifies each style as both owing to African traditions and distinctly belonging to modern popular culture while focusing on the creative possibilities that emerge when different peoples, cultures, and artistic traditions intermingle.
