In 1997, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers acquired a library of over 2,500 16mm films from the Calgary Public Library and regularly screen them for the public. But there’s a catch—each time the film is kept a secret until the credits roll.

Including cult classics, animations, shorts, and documentaries, once every month, a local Calgary curator is asked to choose a film to screen but due to copyright reasons, the title cannot be disclosed in advance. This month, co-founders of Femme Wave, Hayley Muir and Kaely Cormack, take over the helm.

A feminist arts festival, Femme Wave takes place annually across multiple inner-city venues each November, and to give you a hint of what you might be seeing, the film features a lot of rebellious women, jazz, and Alice Munro.

The screening takes place at 8:00pm on October 19, 2017 at CSIF’s screening room (100, 1725 10th Ave. SW). Admission is by donation and space is limited, so make sure you reserve your spot at eventbrite.ca. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door as well.
